Abstract
Abstract The aim of the paper is to propose a statistical test for testing (non‐) linearity of nD systems described by partial differential equations. The test is based on using a sequence of 2D observations provided by a camera, which are converted into observed modes of the system and compared to the modes that are expected when the system is linear. A theoretical correctness of the test is proved for a certain class of nonlinear systems. An application of the theory is illustrated by testing linearity of the process of cooling a copper plate.
