Abstract
Key Points In the United States, women account for 4% of interventional cardiologists and perform 3% of interventional procedures. Male and female cardiology fellows share concerns that dissuade them from careers in interventional cardiology; unique issues for women include professional isolation and childbearing. Interventional fellowships should enhance female mentorship and develop friendly policies regarding maternity leave; other issues require comprehensive solutions to medical school debt, duration of training, and balancing professional goals with lifestyle.
