Abstract
We present an LCD with independently controllable RGBW backlight emitters, and novel backlight control and image processing algorithms. For each input frame of video content, the minimum RGBW power combination required to display the content with maximal colour gamut, and modified image data to accurately reproduce the intended colours under new illumination, are calculated in real time, using the existing graphics processing hardware in a commercially available Android tablet.
