Abstract
Abstract In this paper, an effective genetic‐based clustering algorithm (GCA) is proposed to preprocess the road network into a multilevel network that can reduce the route computation time substantially. Based on the multilevel network, route computation algorithms can provide suboptimal routes with little loss of accuracy (LOA). The geographic information of the road network is considered when constructing the multilevel network. In the proposed GCA, three criteria are considered to evaluate the clustering results. Route calculation results based on the multilevel network constructed by the proposed GCA are compared with the recent research to analyze and quantify the LOA. © 2010 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
