Abstract
The mono-deprotonated ferric complex [Fe(Hbim)(H2bim)2](ClO4)2 (2) oxidizes organic substrates with weak C−H bonds. A hydrogen atom abstraction mechanism is indicated. The ΔH° for addition of H• to 2 (the strength of a N−H bond in 1) is determined to be 76 kcal/mol, consistent with the reactivity observed.
