Abstract
Solubility data of carbon dioxide (CO2) (1) in propanone (2), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ([EMIM]+[BF4]−) (3), and their mixtures (w3 = 0.10, 0.20, and 0.50) at temperatures (298.2 and 313.2) K and pressures up to 8.0 MPa were measured by means of a high-pressure view-cell technique. Henry’s law was applied to correlate the experimental data, and it was found that the magnitude of Henry’s constants for propanone (w3 = 0.0), [EMIM]+[BF4]− (w3 = 1.0), and their mixtures follows the order of w3 = 0.0 < w3 = 0.10 < w3 = 0.20 < w3 = 0.50 < w3 = 1.0 at a given temperature. The mixtures of propanone and [EMIM]+[BF4]− may be used as promising solvents for capturing CO2 since they combine the advantages of organic solvents and ionic liquids.
