Abstract
We report on in situ UV–vis spectroscopic measurement during the electrodeposition of silicon, germanium, and silicon–germanium alloys from an ionic liquid. From the spectroscopic analysis, the potential-dependent formation and growth of Ge, Si, and SixGe1–x nanoparticles were evaluated. The possible formation of adlayers and an underpotential deposition of Si on Ge during silicon and germanium electrodeposition are also discussed.
