Abstract
Ruthenium complexes containing chiral tetradentate PNNP ligands catalyze the carbene transfer from ethyl diazoacetate (EDA) to imines to give the corresponding cis-aziridines with up to 84% ee. Studies of the reactions with 13C- or 15N-labeled EDA show that EDA binds to ruthenium under catalysis conditions and support an unprecedented mechanism involving carbene transfer from coordinated EDA to the imine.
