Backoff considerations in CSMA/CD LAN with single time-varying channel
Electronics Letters1991Vol. 27(9), pp. 747–748
Abstract
Recently, the throughput-delay performance of a slotted, nonpersistent CSMA/CD network with time-varying channels of the Gilbert model has been analysed.2 However, the analytic model assumes a common backoff algorithm for all unsuccessful packets. Recognising that collision and channel errors are different modes of packet destruction that may not be handled equally well by a common backoff algorithm, two modifications to the backoff algorithm for packets that fail by channel errors are proposed and is shown that these result in significant performance improvements, especially at low network loads.
