Low intensity beam extraction at the SSC
AIP conference proceedings1991Vol. 230, pp. 251–265
Abstract
This paper discusses recent results on the extraction of a low intensity beam from the SSC for high‐statistics B‐physics experiments in a fixed‐target configuration. The method to be used employs channeling in a bent crystal to kick protons into a conventional extraction geometry. The part of phase space depleted by the crystal is to be repopulated by the introduction of a small amount of noise into the rf system. It is this aspect of the research that is described here. We present analytic estimates of the extraction rates and the results of Monte Carlo tracking studies.
