Abstract
Ionic liquids based on the imidazolium cation are found to degrade, yielding volatile degradation products, at temperatures significantly lower than previously reported and thus a parameter T z / x (the maximum operating temperature) is developed to provide a more appropriate estimate of thermal stability.
