Abstract
. The equation of the geocentric path of Mercury relative to the center of the sun is obtained from 104 plates of the 1953 transit of Mercury. The times of conjunction are determined as 8 and 3, November 14, 1953, UT, in longitude and right ascension, respectively, with weights approximately equal to those of conjunction times de- rived from at least 75 visual observations of contacts II and III. At the time of conjunction in right ascension the differ- ence in declination, - O, was +0 15' 37.2, and at the time of conjunction in longitude the latitude difference, - O, was +0 14' 30"4. The 0-C for conjunction in right ascension is -4.6. The results suggest a systematic error in the times of contact III observed visually.
