The variable stars in the globular cluster NGC 6934
Abstract
Magnitudes for the 51 variables in NGC 6934 have been estimated on 161 plates of the cluster taken from 1931 through 1964 with the reflectors of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and David Dunlap Observatory, and on 6 plates taken from 1911 through 1917 with the Mount Wilson 60 in. reflector. All but one of these variables are RR Lyrae stars. V 15 is a red irregular variable. Periods have been determined for all the RR Lyrae variables, 45 RR ab and 5 RR c. The average length of period of the RR ab is 0.552 day, compared with a value of 0.550 for those variables in M 3. The average length of the RR c is 0.294 day compared with 0.327 in M 3. NGC 6934 has several characteristics in common with M 3, and its period frequency diagram for the RR Lyrae stars is found to have a marked similarity.
