Abstract
A spectrometric classification for quasars and active galactic nuclei which is based on intrinsic properties is proposed. The objects are separated into three groups: Class A objects with Fe II, Class B objects without Fe II and with Balmer lines broader than forbidden lines, and Class C objects without Fe II and with Balmer lines and forbidden lines of the same width. The properties are studied using parameters such as line ratio, line width, luminosities, and radio and X-ray properties. It is found that the spectrophotometric classification scheme based on intrinsic properties is possible, while Class A objects may provide a useful constraint to the cosmological parameter q0.
