Abstract
The authors use IRAS infrared observations to explore the properties of the dust in a small sample of irregular galaxies chosen to cover a wide range in levels of star formation activity. The irregulars are found to have relatively normal infrared properties. The ratios of 25 μm to 12 μm flux densities are similar among this sample of irregulars in spite of the differences in levels of star formation activity. The integrated far-IR (60, 100 μm) dust color-temperatures range from 26 to 53K and cover the range of values for normal spiral galaxies. The ratio LIR/LB varies widely among the sample. The LIR/LHα ratios are roughly consistent with luminosities measuring the integrated OB stellar luminosity output.
