Two successful techniques for Schmidt plate astrometry
The Astrophysical Journal1990Vol. 358, pp. 359–359
Abstract
The first successes in global astrometric Schmidt plate reduction is reported. It is possible to reach the lower bounds set by reference catalog quality and plate measurement errors via the method of subplate overlap. In addition, a much less complex reduction technique, which systematically removes the distortions of Schmidt plates, also works significantly better than the routine application of low-order polynomial models taken from experience with astrographs. A third technique and a procedure to minimize systematic subplate-to-subplate effects are also discussed.
