Abstract
The i~ -3 1~ rotational transition of formaldehyde (H2CO) has been observed in absorption in the direction of four dark nebulae. The radiation that is being absorbed appears to be the isotropic micro- wave background; this would imply that the excitation temperature of these two levels in these clouds is less than 1.8° K
