Abstract
The total power emitted by Jupiter and Saturn has been measured by observing the planets from a jet aircraft at 15-km altitude with a telescope system open from 1.5 to 350 ~. The two planets were found to radiate 2.7 and 2.4 times the amount of power they receive from the Sun, respectively. These new results put observational restraints on models for the internal structures and atmospheres of the two planets
