A new dynamical model for the Orion Molecular Cloud
The Astrophysical Journal1978Vol. 224, pp. L23–L23
Abstract
An alternative model for the dynamics of the Orion Molecular Cloud is proposed. By resolving the 8-km/s feature of the (J, K) equals (2, 2) line of NH3 toward the KL nebula into two further components at 7.6 km/s and 9.6 km/s and mapping their spatial extents, it is concluded that there are two separate clouds in OMC-1. It is suggested that these two clouds may be in actual physical contact, with the region of overlap being the KL nebula. The blending of the two velocity components is an alternative explanation for the commonly accepted velocity gradient and enhanced line broadening at the KL nebula.
