Clergyman as Counselor

Abstract

The cleryman's role as counselor is examined with reference to its articulation with the whole deviance-controlling system. His activities appear to vary with the characteristics of his congregation and his own educational level. It is proposed that the effect is produced by certain strains, some of which inhibit the development of a system of divided labor between clergymen and other deviance-controlling agents, particularly social workers.
