Study of the Reactionπ−p→π+π−nat an Incident Energy of 870 MeV

Abstract
In the reaction ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}n$, we have measured the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ momentum spectrum at various angles, from which the distributions ${(\frac{{d}^{2}\ensuremath{\sigma}}{\mathrm{dMd}\ensuremath{\Omega}})}^{*}$ of the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}n$ system have been deduced. These distributions are compared with those obtained from a phenomenological model. This comparison allows a determination of the amplitude of the inelastic waves. It is found that the resonant waves ${D}_{15}$ and ${F}_{15}$ are not strongly coupled to the channel $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1238)+\ensuremath{\pi}$.
