Search forΞ*production inK−pinteractions at 2.87 GeV/c

Abstract
Evidence is presented for production of ${\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{*}$ resonances, decaying into $\ensuremath{\Xi}\ensuremath{\pi}$, $\ensuremath{\Xi}(1530)\ensuremath{\pi}$, $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\overline{K}$, and $\ensuremath{\Sigma}\overline{K}$, in ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$ interactions at 2.87 Gev/c. The data represent final combined results from a 30-events/\ensuremath{\mu}b hydrogen exposure and an 18-events/\ensuremath{\mu}b exposure in deuterium designed to study ${\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{*}$ production in the mass interval 1.46-2.07 GeV/${\mathit{c}}^{2}$. In addition to $\ensuremath{\Xi}(1820)$ and $\ensuremath{\Xi}(1940)$, signals have been observed at masses of 1630 MeV/${\mathit{c}}^{2}$ and 1860 MeV/${\mathit{c}}^{2}$ decaying into ${\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ and $Y\overline{K}$, respectively. Reaction cross sections have been measured for all final states containing two visible signs of strangeness, and for the final states $\ensuremath{\Lambda}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}^{+}$ and ${\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{0}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{K}^{+}$.
