Abstract
We have studied properties of strange-particle final states arising from reactions of 1.1- to $2.4\ensuremath{-}\frac{\mathrm{GeV}}{c} {\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ mesons on deuterium. Total cross sections on deuterium are presented and three reactions are analyzed in terms of the impulse model. ${Y}^{*}(1385)$ production dominates the $n\ensuremath{\Lambda}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ final state, and the reaction is described adequately near threshold by a magnetic dipole ${K}^{*}$ exchange model. The $n{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}{K}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ final state is found to be primarily $n{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}{K}^{*+}$. Highly aligned $\ensuremath{\varphi}$'s are produced in the reaction ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}d\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{pp}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, along with $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1520)$.
