InclusiveK0,Λ0,K*±(890), andΣ*±(1385)production inppcollisions at 300 GeV/c

Abstract

Inclusive $\frac{{K}^{0}}{{\overline{K}}^{0}}$, ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{0}$, and ${\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}^{0}$ cross sections have been determined using a 292-event/mb exposure of the hydrogen-filled 15-foot bubble chamber at Fermilab. From the invariant-mass distributions of ${V}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ pairs we find that $\ensuremath{\sigma}({{K}^{*}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}(890))=4.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.4$ mb, $\ensuremath{\sigma}({{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{*}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}(1385))=0.54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.40$ mb, and $\ensuremath{\sigma}({{\overline{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}^{*}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}(1385))=0.45\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.34$ mb. It is estimated that 0.32 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.11 of $\frac{{K}^{0}}{{\overline{K}}^{0}'\mathrm{s}}$, 0.21 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.16 of $\ensuremath{\Lambda}'\mathrm{s}$, and 0.96 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.75 of $\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}'\mathrm{s}$ originate from decays of ${K}^{*}(890)$ and ${\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{*}(1385)$, respectively.
