Abstract
We have measured the process ${e}^{+}$${e}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}$${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ at \ensuremath{\surd}s =29 GeV using the High Resolution Spectrometer at SLAC PEP. The forward-backward charge asymmetry is ${A}_{\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\mu}}$=-(4.9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.5)% based on 5057 events. A subsample of 3488 ${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}$${\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ events in the angular range \ensuremath{\Vert}cos\ensuremath{\theta}\ensuremath{\Vert}<0.55 gives a cross-section ratio of ${R}_{\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\mu}}$=0.990\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.017\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.030. The resulting couplings of the weak neutral current are ${g}_{a}^{e}$${g}_{a}^{\ensuremath{\mu}}$=0.208\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.064\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.021 and ${g}_{v}^{e}$${g}_{v}^{\ensuremath{\mu}}$=0.027 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.051\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.089. The QED cutoff parameters are ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{+}$>170 GeV and ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$>146 GeV at 95% C.L.
