New measurement of the production polarization and magnetic moment of theΞ−hyperon

Abstract
We have measured the production polarization and magnetic moment of a sample of $89\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{3}{\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ hyperons produced in the inclusive reaction $p(400 \mathrm{GeV}/c)+\mathrm{Cu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}+X$. The weighted average of the polarization is -0.070\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.010 at a ${p}_{t}$ of 0.63 GeV/c. The ${\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}'\mathrm{s}$ magnetic moment yields the value ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{\ensuremath{\Xi}}=\ensuremath{-}0.661\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.036\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.036$ nuclear magnetons. The first error is statistical, the second systematic.
