Particle ratios of high-x(t)hadrons inp−Ainteractions ats=38.8GeV
Abstract
We report measurements of the ratios $\frac{{K}^{+}}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}$, $\frac{p}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}$, $\frac{{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}}$, $\frac{\overline{p}}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}}$, $\frac{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}$, $\frac{{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}}{{K}^{+}}$, and $\frac{\overline{p}}{p}$ for hadrons with $0.19<{x}_{t}<0.62$ produced in $p\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{Be}$ and $p\ensuremath{-}W$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=38.8$ GeV. The $\frac{{K}^{+}}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}$ ratio at high ${x}_{t}$ gives the fragmentation-function ratio $\frac{{D}_{u}^{{K}^{+}}}{{D}_{u}^{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}}$ at high $z$. The high-${x}_{t}$ $\frac{{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}}$ ratio gives an upper limit for $\frac{{D}_{d}^{{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}}}{{D}_{d}^{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}}}$ at high $z$. The ${p}_{t}$ dependence of $\frac{p}{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}}$ suggests that scattered constituent diquarks are the primary source of protons with ${p}_{t}<6$ GeV/c. We also present species correlations in high-mass $\frac{{h}^{+}}{{h}^{\ensuremath{-}}}$ pairs. Strong $\frac{{K}^{+}}{{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}}$ and $p\overline{p}$ correlations were observed.
