Search for decays ofB0mesons into pairs of leptons:B0→e+e−,B0→μ+μ−,andB0→e±μ∓

Abstract
We search for the decay of the ${B}^{0}$ meson into a pair of leptons in the suppressed channels ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}},$ ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and in the lepton number violating channel ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}$ in a sample of $9.7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6} B\overline{B}$ pairs recorded by CLEO detector. No signal is found, and the following upper limits on the branching fractions are established: $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}})<8.3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}7},$ $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}})<6.1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}7},$ $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}})<15\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}7}$ at 90% confidence level. A new lower limit on the Pati-Salam leptoquark mass ${M}_{\mathrm{LQ}}>27 \mathrm{TeV}$ is established at 90% confidence level.
