Abstract

Decays of the $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)$ into vector plus pseudoscalar meson final states have been studied with $14\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)$ events collected with the BESII detector. Branching fractions of $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\phi}\ensuremath{\eta}$, $\ensuremath{\phi}{\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$, and $\ensuremath{\omega}{\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$, and upper limits of $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\phi}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ and $\ensuremath{\omega}\ensuremath{\eta}$ are obtained: $B\mathbf{(}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\phi}\ensuremath{\eta}\mathbf{)}=(3.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.5)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$, $B\mathbf{(}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\phi}{\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\mathbf{)}=(3.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.7)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$, and $B\mathbf{(}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\omega}{\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}\mathbf{)}=({3.2}_{\ensuremath{-}2.0}^{+2.4}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.7)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$; and $B\mathbf{(}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\phi}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}\mathbf{)}<0.40\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$, and $B\mathbf{(}\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\omega}\ensuremath{\eta}\mathbf{)}<3.1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$ at the 90% C.L. These results are used to test the perturbative QCD ``12% rule.''
