Observation ofηc(1S)andηc(2S)decays toK+K−π+π−π0in two-photon interactions

Abstract

We study the processes $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}_{S}^{0}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}$ and $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ using a data sample of $519.2{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider at center-of-mass energies near the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(nS)$ ($n=2$, 3, 4) resonances. We observe the ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(1S)$, ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}(1P)$ and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(2S)$ resonances produced in two-photon interactions and decaying to ${K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$, with significances of 18.1, 5.4 and 5.3 standard deviations (including systematic errors), respectively, and report $4.0\ensuremath{\sigma}$ evidence of the ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c2}(1P)$ decay to this final state. We measure the ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(2S)$ mass and width in ${K}_{S}^{0}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}$ decays, and obtain the values $m({\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(2S))=3638.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.5\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.8\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/{c}^{2}$ and $\ensuremath{\Gamma}({\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(2S))=13.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}4.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}3.2\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We measure the two-photon width times branching fraction for the reported resonance signals, and search for the ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c2}(2P)$ resonance, but no significant signal is observed.
