Abstract
Using a data sample of $2.25\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{8}$ $J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present the first observation of the decays of ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}$ mesons to ${\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}{\overline{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\Xi}}}^{+}$. The branching fractions are measured to be $(2.11\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.28}_{\mathrm{stat}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.18}_{\mathrm{syst}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.50}_{\mathrm{PDG}})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ and $(0.89\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.16}_{\mathrm{stat}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.08}_{\mathrm{syst}}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{0.21}_{\mathrm{PDG}})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ for ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}{\overline{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\Xi}}}^{+}$, respectively. These branching fractions provide important information on the helicity selection rule in charmonium-decay processes.
