Abstract
Smart antenna is the most efficient leading adaptive beamforming technique for maximum coverage, null steering, offer higher system capacity and improved quality of the service compared to other antennas. This paper proposes the historical development of fixed weight beamforming basics (FWBB), adaptive arrays and finally a comparison made between performance of two adaptive algorithms - Least Mean Square (LMS) and Sample Matrix Inversion (SMI).
