Applications of 5G Mobile Positioning Techniques in Vertical Industries

Abstract
As a new generation of information and communications technology (ICT), 5G has been becoming a considerable driving force for the digital transformation of economic society. The rapid development in both technical and industrial fields has introduced abundant functions and possibilities for 5G, beyond its inherent communication capabilities. Precise positioning is one of these emerging characteristics and has been attracting increasing attentions from various industries, since its universal and general usability for industrial requirements. Effective employment of 5G as new infrastructure for seamlessly high-precision location services has become a new direction of global development, which is of great significance for solving the “last mile” of high-precision and low-cost location services from outdoor to indoor. Nine typical application scenarios in various industries are summarized in this paper. As an outlook, several possible development trends and challenges are proposed.
