On Application of the Method of Early Slag Recognition during Steel Casting

Abstract
The article considers the problem of early recognition of slag of steel casting ladle of continuous casting machine. In this work the vibration method of slag recognition was tested, as it is the most informative. The character of change of vibration acceleration signals of the protective tube manipulator of the continuous casting machine when slag starts to enter the intermediate ladle was investigated. The method of constructing the envelope of the vibration signal power spectrum was tested. On this basis five empirical criterion of slag cut-off together with the data of steel mass residue in the steel casting ladle were developed in order to improve the efficiency of their operation. As a result of testing the criterion, it was found that it was possible to successfully capture the desired outcome of the slag control system in 100 percent of cases. This result allowed us to conclude that the criterion are workable and can be used in real production conditions.
