Mutual excitation and reorientation of target and projectile in Coulomb excitation
Canadian Journal of Physics1970Vol. 48(2), pp. 240–243
Abstract
In the usual treatment of Coulomb excitation, one of the interacting nuclei is considered as a point charge. In this paper we show, for the special case of E2 excitation, how multipoles of both target and projectile can be incorporated in a coupled-channels calculation. It is found that reorientation of the projectile ground state affects the results only if polarized beams are used.
