Abstract
Rare-earth nanophosphors with nearly pure near-infrared to near-infrared (NIR-to-NIR) upconversion (UC) have great potential to revolutionize biological luminescent labels, but the nearly or fully pure NIR-to-NIR UC is almost unattainable in Rare earth nanophosphors up to now. In this work, an interesting Tm3+-Yb3+ co-doped Bi5O7I upconverting nanophosphors with remarkable NIR-to-visible ratio (I807 nm/I485 nm), near to 260 under excitation at 980 nm, was reported, and physical mechanism elucidating the prominent NIR-to-visible ratio was discussed. Our results indicate that the Tm3+-Yb3+ co-doped Bi5O7I nanophosphors are potentially applicable as a high-contrast in vitro and in vivo imaging.
