PS/2 and OS/2, and PC Workstation Futures
Petroleum Computer Conference1988
Abstract
ABSTRACT IBM's introduction of the Personal System/2 (PS/2) personal computers and the Operating System/2 (OS/2) are part of an overall Systems Application Architecture (SAA) plan aimed at bringing all lines of computers from PCs to mainframes closer together. Since the benefits of IBM's proprietary PS/2 technology is presently unclear, the decision to purchase IBM's PS/2 or third-party "clones" should be based primarily on price versus performance. The introduction of OS/2 is a true performance breakthrough, but its benefits will not be seen until new applications are developed to take advantage of the new features.
