Abstract
DUNE, the next particle physics macro-project, is using for the first time liquid argon (LAr) technology on large-scale detectors to study neutrino oscillations. This technology needs a correct convection circulation and a high purity level of LAr, so accurate measurement of temperature as a function of height is crucial for detector’s optimal performance. It is exposed it this Master Thesis the mechanical design and prototyping of a system to measure the vertical temperature gradient over a height of 8 m, and the development of a calibration system, which has allowed IFIC’s experimental neutrino group to achieve a accuracy better than 3 mK for the first time in this kind of detectors.
