Studies and research concerning BNFP: process radiation monitoring systems
Abstract
A variety of process radiation monitoring systems presently installed at BNFP have been subected to an evaluation and development program. The on-line alpha monitors were laboratory tested by circulating plutonium solutions through a typical monitor. The on-line and on-tank gamma monitors were modified for pulse height analysis capability and tested in the laboratory. Specialized radiation monitors including the neutron column monitors, the gadolinium monitors, the centrifuge gamma monitor, and the pneumatic conveyor monitor were subjected to in-plant testing and development. Results of the experiments with the monitors are given. Sensitivity, accuracy, reliability, and range of applicability of each monitor are discussed along with suggested modifications for improvement of the system`s performance.
