High-Definition Television and Compatibility with Existing Standards
SMPTE Journal1983Vol. 92(5), pp. 552–561
Abstract
This paper details the technological considerations involved in bringing high-definition television to television receivers already in use, and in achieving high-definition compatibility with existing standards. It lists means by which conventional 625/50 signals may be improved for display on high-definition receivers, and discusses recent investigations into many different scanning standards.
