Abstract
The use of 13C-labeled starting materials and intermediates in the synthesis of the lipid regulator atorvastatin is described. 13C NMR of the 13C-enriched intermediates allowed monitoring of problematic nonchromophoric low-level impurities which were unobservable using standard analytical techniques.
